RHIC PROJECT GALLERY

Public Art Crosswalk

Our 2021 placemaking project was a collaboration with residents, local artists, and educators at the Brookfield and Whitelock intersection

Callow Avenue Comeback

RHIC was involved in this large scale rehabilitation of the last vacant block of housing within Reservoir Hill. The project involved a rehab upwards of $26 million.

Housing Education

In all our Newsletters, RHIC highlights various housing related resources: how to put your name on your deed, prevent foreclosure and more.

GreenUps & Dumpster Days

GreenUps and Dumpster Days allow residents to be part of  cleaning, beautification and greening initiatives.

Tree-planting

RHIC boasts of its tree canopy and tree planting projects. We have planted more than 800 trees in the neighborhood in the last decade.

Whitelock Farm

Originally founded by RHIC volunteers and staff, Whitelock is Reservoir Hill's, now independent urban farm. The farm holds weekly markets and volunteer opportunities for residents.

DIH Redesign Proposal

Driven by our shared values—belonging, connection, opportunity, and safety--RHIC  and DIH Elementary worked towards a better school design in recent years.

Traffic Safety

We collaborated with the District 7 Council Office and Transportation Department to implement residents' survey suggestions from our 2020 Opensource Traffic Survey.

North Avenue Redesign

In order to imagine a safer, more connected Baltimore - RHIC has partnered with stakeholders to imagine an alternative to this busy corridor in future years.

Whitelock Public Art Crosswalk

In order to raise awareness of pedestrian safety and also slow down traffic, this resident-initiated project supported by RHIC asked neighbors to share their ideas and inspiration for the crosswalk design.  During the pandemic multiple design meetings and opportunities were held as the community and local artists and educators worked to develop several possible designs.  Community members submitted their ideas on paper, via email, and in an online drawing portal. These suggestions were refined to three choices by a local public artist. The final design, Seasonal Turn, was determined by resident votes and installation took place in  April 2021 with a full community celebration and Mayor's ribbon cutting with neighbors, artists, musicians, and supporters in May that year.

Arches & Access

A placemaking and pedestrian safety awareness public art project centered around the neighborhood's access to Druid Hill Park, which is separated by a heavy trafficked highway. In 2019, RHIC worked with community artists and neighbors supporting the lighting of the historic Madison Avenue Arches, the original entrance-way to Druid Hill Park, and emphasizing the neighborhood's original connection to the park.  The installation included a community street fair with night parade by neighbors and organizations joining together along the bath between Reservoir Hill and the park's Rawlings Conservatory.  The musical light parade concluded with a neighborhood dance party in the conservatory.
