If there were ever a perfect Fall day for hundreds of Reservoir Hill residents to celebrate all the ways neighbors have brought life back to Whitelock St., this past Sunday's Whitelock Revival & Harvest Fest would have been it. When you have an afternoon full of live music, games for kids, and terrific neighborhood greens offered by Whitelock Community Farm's first ever Greens Cook Off, you start to imagine how vibrant Whitelock St. could be if given the chance.

It is important to remember that none of the smiles, hugs, and laughs in the following pictures happened on what you would normally consider a park space, but rather on a series of lots that have been vacant since the mid-1990's. Sunday's event represented the first time in many years that residents were able to enjoy the site, but there will be many more upcoming occasions as RHIC continues to work with residents to create a multi-use community space on these lots. The images below capture what it feels like when a neighborhood has the opportunity to conceive and implement a vision for what they would like their community to be.

Thanks to the efforts of the Whitelock Community Farm, German Park Working Group, and the South Whitelock Design Team, Whitelock St. will no longer be an empty, closed space in the center of the neighborhood:

But, instead, Whitelock St. will be a place where neighbors see each other, greet each other, and honor each others' contributions to a shared community:

Reservoir Hill needs an active Whitelock St. so neighbors have things to see and do together:
