John Eager Howard Students Plant 700 Flower Bulbs

Everything Will be Coming Up Tulips in the Spring!

On 9 December, seventeen students from John Eager Howard Elementary School planted 700 flower bulbs in the seating areas of the new playground in German Park.

In the autumn, Beth Am Synagogue received a donation of 700 flower bulbs on behalf of the German Park Working Group for beautifying the new playground in German Park.  A wonderful opportunity for spring beauty, but how to get it done before winter set in?  Enter John Eager Howard School, our neighborhood elementary school that has been making tremendous strides toward being a Maryland Green School.

Supported by volunteers from the William Donald Schaefer House, RHIC staff, Newington Avenue resident Everton Wiles, and their own teachers, the students used hand tools to dig in the soil and applied an on-site lesson in bulb planting to secure beneath the surface a beautiful gift we will all enjoy come spring.

As a side note, the students found worms and ended up discussing the lessons they had learned about worm composting at John Eager Howard.
