Digging up asphalt on the vacant lots along the south side of the 900 block of Whitelock St. (8/6/11)

Though we are still in the process of refining our site plan for the South Whitelock community space, we're able to continue landscaping the vacant lots into a more usable condition.  So far, we've removed portions of the fence, leveled the perimeter edges, and, most recently, begun digging up the asphalt installed by previous users of the lots. We'll need several more weekends to finish the job, but our hope is that eventually we'll be able to till and amend the soil, allowing it to grow into a grassy lawn, which unlike asphalt, can properly drain.  This past weekend, residents took refuge from the heat in the cool shade of the Bobcat digger cockpit:
