Community-wide Clean-up - April 19, 2008

On Saturday, April 19, 2008 residents of Reservoir Hill came out to clean up the neighborhood. This was in response to the Mayor, Sheila Dixon’s citywide Clean Sweep. Each neighborhood group was requested by RHIC to clean up their area. Many residents came out to participate. Bolton Park Neighbors cleaned the Lennox Street Garden, Historic Mt. Royal cleaned up the alley area behind Mt. Royal Terrace, and residents on Brookfield came out and cleaned. The Linden Avenue block club did a great job in cleaning the alley between Linden and Eutaw Street. The Reservoir Hill Mutual Homes led by Frances Meekins and several younger residents cleaned Callow Avenue. This event was a great event followed by a cookout at John Eager Howard Park. All that participated did a wonderful job and 10,708 pounds of trash was removed from our neighborhood as a result of our hard work.

More than 135 residents and RHIC supporters gathered at the Mansion House at The Maryland Zoo in Druid Hill Park to celebrate another year of People Powered Change. Click here for a copy of the program. The evening featured a keynote presentation by Marvin “Doc” Cheatham, president of the Baltimore branch of the NAACP. The music of Jazz Encounters floated out the windows and doors of the veranda while participants ate barbeque, chatted with those at the booths in the exhibit hall, and prepared to elect new members of the Board of Directors and honor many who served the community over the past year. 2007 award recipients were Frances Meekins, Michael Burke, Newington Avenue Neighbors Association, Druid Community Association, John Eager Howard Recreation Center, Upper Eutaw/Madison Neighborhood Association, SPARK, Health Neighborhoods, Inc., the Master Gardeners Association, Rebecca Feldberg of the Division of Forestry, and Joe Lazazzara. RHIC also gave outgoing City Councilman Keiffer Mitchell an award for his years of service to the community. We appreciate the ongoing support of The Maryland Zoo in being able to hold this event at the Mansion House.

Housing Tour 2007

A Success!

Thanks to all who made Housing Tour 2007 a great success!

More than 50 real estate agents and homeowners opened up their homes to prospective buyers on Saturday April 14 and Sunday April 15. About 150 people came to the neighborhood over two days to view the homes and learn about special low-interest loan programs available for purchase and renovation. Feedback from participating agents, homeowners, and homebuyers has been very positive

Current residents were on hand to greet visitors and talk with them about Reservoir Hill. (see photo) Saturday’s weather, much warmer and sunnier than expected, certainly encouraged interested homebuyers to stay a bit longer in the community and check out one of the 50 houses available for sale.
